Meaning and value are not everything.

The story behind me quitting medical practice.

I quit practicing medicine because I felt I was in hell and I burnt-out after 15 minutes. It’s not how long the shift is. It’s what you do during it that counts.

People talk about working less all the time in order to avoid burnout.

If you did something that holds you back from being at your full potential while doing it you’ll always burnout within a few minutes of starting or doing it. Even if you’re passionate about it and it’s insanely and incontrovertibly meaningful. If what you do does not exercise your full powers to the maximum, you will never find any fulfillment in it, and you will always burnout while doing it prematurely.
