Why you still have to create, even if you have nothing new to say.

The real reason behind your creativity block.

Trying to push yourself during times of creativity block can feel sometimes like you’re trying to squeeze new ideas or realizations out of yourself, or forcing yourself to come up with something new anyway although you have enough knowledge or ideas already.

I understand that you need to be always in the process of creating something new in order to keep your creativity sharp. But withholding yourself from creating anything at all because you haven’t discovered anything new will not increase your creative output. It’s like perfectionistic tendencies that makes you set standards that if you are not certain you’re going to meet, you’d rather not even try. It’s good to try to discover new concepts, ideas, principles, findings, or discoveries as much as you possibly can, but you still need to decouple having to create something new on a regular basis from having to discover something new on a regular basis, if you ever wish to maximize your creative output, or satisfy your creativity needs to the fullest. You can’t keep satisfying your need for creativity contingent upon satisfying your need for discovering, or else one of the two will always be held back by the other.

You can create something new without learning or discovering something new that increases your knowledge or experience. Still, you are bound to create something new because of whatever that you discover sooner or later.

It’s always a good idea to separate between the process of creating on the regular and discovering something new. Waiting until you discover something groundbreaking first before attempting to create another masterpiece is arguably the biggest reason why you suffer from creativity block every now and then. Start before you’re ready. Allow yourself to engage in the creative process even if you have nothing new to offer. If you are not allowed to create unless you discover something new first, you will hardly end up creating anything, and you will also be reluctant to discover anything new because lack of creativity now has become your favorite comfort zone. Both your creative output and how much you discover on the regular will decline gradually until you slowly become normal.
