They insanely make you more productive, but they do not mean that you’ll do it anyway even if you don’t want to.

A calendar or a To-do list won’t help you do something that you are not initially motivated to do anyway with or without this thing being present in any management or planning system like a to-do list or a calendar.

A Calendar or a To-do list won’t push you to do something that you don’t already want to do, with or without the help of either of these two tools.

If you don’t already want to do this thing, it’s existence in a to-do list or a calendar won’t make you desire to do it more, or make you just magically want to do it. These tools do not generate any interest, enthusiasm, willingness, eagerness, desire, aspiration, or motivation to do something. They just let you know what lies ahead.

Do not get me wrong. They are amazing tools. And I don’t think you should try to make do without them. But do not expect them to solve all your problems for you.

These are productivity tools not motivational tools.

If there’s no initial desire to accomplish those items, the mere presence of them in a time management system will only become a burden that slows you down even further.

Oh I really don’t wanna do this, so I’ll just schedule it or throw it in a to do list. This is self sabotage. Ball and chains. You don’t have a procrastination problem here. You have an I don’t want to waste my time and energy problem here. Which is in fact a good thing. Not a problem.
